The dive
Wandering the structures is the format — a maze of encrusted boxes, frames and towers standing on the sand, each its own micro-habitat. Navigation is guide's business; yours is checking every sponge-covered surface, because on this site the sponges look back.
Residents
This is frogfish headquarters — painted and giant, thumbnail juveniles to fist-sized adults, in every colour the sponges wear. Around the structures: schooling juvenile barracuda and batfish patrolling the perimeter, and at times jackfish in numbers that wrap divers in silver. The hard surfaces also stack the deck for ghost pipefish and nudibranchs.
Conditions and level
- Terrain: sand-standing structures at friendly depths
- Suits: all levels; photographers should bring the macro lens and the patience for a yawn shot
- Conduct: the structures are habitat, not furniture — no gripping, kneeling or moving residents for angles
