4D3N — Mabul + Sipadan

The classic Semporna-seas trip: three nights on Mabul with a Sipadan permit day in the middle. The permit fixes one day; this plan arranges everything else around it.

The shape of the trip

Day 1 mirrors the 3D2N arrival: Tawau by 2.00pm, Semporna, afternoon boat, house reef, sunset. Day 2 is the full Mabul muck day — boat dives on the sand slopes, the macro list, and the dusk mandarin option. Then the day the permit bought:

Day 3 — Sipadan

An early start: the boat run south to Sipadan, a morning of the wall-and-blue diving the island is famous for, back to Mabul by afternoon. The permit day is scheduled by the operator against the quota — you fit it, it does not fit you. Everything about how permits work lives in our Sipadan diving guide.

NOTE — FLIGHT TIMING
Diving Sipadan on day 3 means the 24-hour no-fly clock runs from your final dive that day. A day-4 morning flight out of Tawau does not clear it. Book a day-4 afternoon/evening flight timed past the interval, or dive Sipadan earlier in the stay. We check this against your actual flight in the enquiry — it is the single most common planning error on this route.

Day 4 — exit

Morning snorkel or village time, boat to Semporna, road to Tawau, fly — with the no-fly interval already cleared by the schedule above.

Why this is the recommended plan

Two full dive days, the permit day protected, and no wasted night: the 4D3N is the highest-value shape for a first Semporna-seas trip. Longer stays simply add more Mabul muck days around the same skeleton — happily. Send dates and certification and we build it.

Lock in the permit early

Sipadan slots are the scarce resource in this plan — send dates now and we sequence the whole trip around the permit day.
