Mabul Island — quick answers

The questions every enquiry asks, answered straight. Anything not covered here — ask it in the form and get a real answer within a working day.

Getting there

How do I get to Mabul?

Fly to Tawau, road to Semporna, boat to the island — 35 to 45 minutes on the water. The full route, schedule table and the land-by-2.00pm rule are in the getting-there guide.

Can I visit as a day trip?

Yes — day trips run from Semporna. What they include and what the overnight adds is in the day trips guide.

Diving

Do I need to be a diver?

No — the headline marine life lives at snorkel depth. Read Mabul for non-divers.

Can I dive Sipadan from Mabul?

Yes, on a permit day arranged in advance — Mabul is the classic base. Permits are quota-limited; how the system works is in our Sipadan diving guide.

Do I need dive insurance?

Yes — cover that explicitly includes scuba to your certified depth. Operators may ask for proof.

Practicalities

Is there an ATM on the island?

Plan as if not. Cash comes from Semporna — details in the packing guide and Semporna guide.

When is the best time to visit?

The island runs year-round; the month-by-month detail lives in best time to visit.

Is Mabul suitable for children?

Supervised swimmers do well — the lagoon side is calm and shallow. Flag ages in the enquiry and the stay gets matched properly.
