Lobster Wall

Mabul's western wall — riddled with holes, cracks and a network of tunnels, with the namesake lobsters peering out of the entrances. Ask divers here for the island's best site and this is the most common answer.

The dive

A colourful reef sloping and walling down to roughly 20 metres on Mabul's western side. The structure is the story: the wall is full of holes and small caverns backed by a network of tunnels, and lobsters hold the doorways. Dives typically start on the reef top and work gently down and along.

Residents

Nudibranchs in numbers, several pipefish species, peacock mantis shrimp, passing green turtles — and this is one of the sites where a flamboyant cuttlefish turns a good dive into a great one. The crevice-checking habit pays here more than anywhere else on the island.
